Social media has made creepy over-sharers of us all. Annoying, right? Sure – except now a new app promises to turn it to your advantage by flagging the whereabouts of your acquaintances so you never have to bump into them again. Gentlemen, life just got a tiny bit easier.
Cloak pitches itself as “incognito mode for real life”, removing the ‘social’ from social media by following everyone you know, from your friends to you ex-girlfriends and that-bloke-you-met-a-party-once. It uses their Instagram and Foursquare updates to pinpoint them on a map, allowing you to discreetly cross the road and avoid awkward kerbside pleasantries if they're close by.
Created by former BuzzFeed employee Chris Baker – who previously launched baby picture blocker Unbaby.me for Facebook – Cloak’s “anti-social network” can alert you when specific contacts you want to steer clear of are in your immediate vicinity, or list the last known whereabouts of your every known acquaintance, should you be feeling particularly reluctant to stop and chat.
